You're 65 and you have access to Medicare health coverage. Now you need to complete your protection by purchasing the right North Carolina Medicare supplement insurance to cover all of your medical expenses that Original Medicare will not. We’re here to help.

Learn more about the different parts of Medicare health coverage, eligibility requirements and when to enroll in a NC Med sup insurance plan with First Pioneer Insurance Agency.

Medicare’s Specific Coverage Parts

You’re automatically enrolled in Part A when you turn age 65. But what does that mean? There are specific parts of Medicare coverage. Here's a basic understanding of how they work and who offers them:

Original Medicare includes Part A and Part B coverage

  • Medicare Part A is hospital insurance that helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice and home health care. You usually don’t pay a monthly premium for Part A coverage.
  • Medicare Part B is medical insurance that helps cover medically necessary doctor services and outpatient care. It also includes some preventive services to help you maintain good health and to keep certain illnesses from getting worse. You will typically pay a monthly premium for Part B.

Original Medicare is offered by the federal government and covers about 80% of the cost of many health care services. It doesn’t pay for all of your costs and Medicare supplement insurance is typically needed.

Covering the Gaps Left By Medicare

Medicare covers many health care services and certain prescription drugs, but it doesn’t pay for all of your costs. These “coverage gaps” could leave you paying up to 20% of your health related expenses.

That’s why a NC Medicare supplement plan can help cover expenses such as copayments, coinsurance and deductibles that Original Medicare doesn’t cover. It is often called a Medigap policy and is purchased in addition to Part A and Part B coverage.

Enrollment in a North Carolina Medicare supplement plan is simple. And, you can be guaranteed acceptance for coverage if:

  • Age 65 or older and eligible for Medicare
  • Enroll within six months of enrolling in Medicare Part B
  • Not covered by Medicaid
  • North Carolina resident
